Objectivity in journalism is dead, if it did indeed exist at all..~Hunter S. Thompson said this..or something to this affect at least. After this hellish week I’m inclined to agree with him.

It’s been a tragic week for our nation, admittedly. The Boston Marathon bombing (and the subsequent shoot outs and car chase and citywide lock-down that ensued), a deadly explosion in a Texas fertilizer plant (the body count is still rising), High level government officials receiving letters laced with deadly Ricin (they are blaming Elvis). In the wake of these events many chose to see America triumphing over adversity and her enemies. Another shining example of our dear country pulling up her boot straps and doing what needs to be done..and that she did..that she did…

Now here come the part where I probably piss some people off.

I for one saw some thing very different rear its ugly head this week. All this Kumbaya Bullshit wasn’t enough to overshadow the culture of arrogance we have cultivated here for ourselves. Every newspaper I picked up today had, in full color, gruesome photos of the two Tsarnaev brothers (who quite frankly made Boston PD look like the cast from Police Academy 3) lying in pools of their own blood next to images of people chanting and cheering. It’s like we are all proudly thumping our chest screaming “USA ain’t Nuthin to Fuck Wit!” And in these same goddamn cover stories they have the nerve to ask “Why? Why, oh, why would someone want to do this to us?” Gee I wonder…

In the Middle East towns and lives are devastated by unmanned drone strikes in our name. How quickly people forget that we as a nation declared a so-called “War on Terror”….so why are we so surprised when Terror takes a shit on our doorstep?

The answer: Arrogance…and its the thing that’s responsible for the plant explosion in West, Texas. That facility had massive amounts of Ammonium Nitrate (this shit is used to make bombs as well) that it failed to report and has been cited in the past for improper safety protocol and lack of permits. And these fuckers had the balls to tell the EPA that they were not at risk for fire or explosion!

“Oh, don’t worry this shit is only used to make fucking dynamite what do we need safety regulations for?”

Pride and stupidity..plain and simple.

Speaking of stupidity…blaming mentally challenged Elvis for trying to poison the President…come on..

I know this may seem unpatriotic to some…hell, downright blasphemous to others but I see things moving in a direction i’m not sure I want to go down. I wasn’t sure what I was writing when I sat down at my laptop tonight…just had a long day and felt like ranting, but now I’m hoping that maybe someone out there notices the same shit I have been seeing…the jingoism, the ignorance, the ebbing of our humanity…I saw our nations ego manifest itself into some sort of sick smirk and frankly it scared the hell out of me….Fuck it, maybe i’m the one who is really losing it.

Alright i’m done. Getting off my soapbox now…

So I’m at the gas station the other day and realize I only had like 3 bucks on me..fuck it I put it in the tank anyway. But as I’m filling my car with the 0.7 gal of gas I just bought, a seemingly baked gentleman comes up and gives me 5$ for gas and says he has a new comedy bit called “gas is high” and then vanishes as quickly as he appeared. We never saw him get in/out of a car, where the fuck did he come from? Why did he give me money? Was it perhaps that he felt bad for me? Was it because he was high or could tell I was high as well? Or was it maybe a random act of kindness I’m reading too much into? We may never know…

But I do know one thing for sure…I sure as hell won’t pass on the favor
